Healthy lifestyle change

2 weeks ago I watched a documentary called Fat, sick and nearly dead www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/Share

This really opened my eyes to see that everything that I put into my mouth has an effect on every part of my being. Now don't get me wrong I know I am over weight and that I definitely need to lose some weight but I was in denial about the affect of the types of foods I was eating. When I looked at this documentary I said to myself "I could have hypertension or pre diabetes or some other illness". Some illnesses take a while to manifest and I don't want to wait until then to do something. So fast forward some 2 days after watching this and ordering Dr.Joel Furhman's e-book Eat to live and reading the book I have decided to change my lifestyle.
Well I'm not going completely raw just yet I plan on trying to incorporate at least 75% raw foods into my diet. How do I plan on doing this you may ask? My plan is adding green smoothies to my daily diet using the NutriBulet

Why use a nutrition extractor vs a juicer? For me the answer was easy, I want the fiber that is included in the fruits and vegetables not just the juice. Another reason is that I will be putting raw nuts and seeds in my drinks. I will be having a green smoothie for breakfast but will have to decide which other meal I want to have my green smoothie for. This is my plan for jump starting a more healthy lifestyle. I will then be eating more fruits, vegetables and legumes throughout the day.

I'm really excited and my first smoothie turned out great. I used 1cup spinach, 1/2 cup young coconut meat, 1/2 cup pineapple, 1 small banana, 2 Tbs flax seeds and 1 cup coconut water from the young coconut. This was so yummy and it filled me up. Just a little side note here: a young coconut is one that is light tan in color on the outside and very tender meat on the inside. The cracked open coconut in the picture is the young one.

I hope I inspire someone else to become a little more healthy. Peace and blessings

Whipped shea butter winter variety

In this blog which is sort of like a vlog today, I'll be showing you how I make my whipped shea butter for fall and winter. This is a heavier version of what we use in our hair and on our bodies at my home.
So for the ingredients I will be using.

  • 8oz unrefined shea butter
  • 2TBS or 30mL coconut oil
  • 1TBS or 15mL olive oil
  • 1 TBS or 15mL castor oil
  • 2 TBS or 30mL almond oil
  • 1mL vitamin E oil

I didn't add any essential oils to this batch because this is for my husband and daughter. When I make my batch I add Ylang Ylang and ginger. Both of these essential oils are thought to help promote hair growth by stimulating your scalp and increasing circulation, anyway I love the smell combo. I hope you like it and give it try. By the way we filled 6 (4oz )containers.
    Peace

Fall is here!

I just love Autumn. It's the time of year when the weather cools off, the leaves change color and I just feel cozy. So to get ready for this fall season my darling daughter little H and I are going to be going apple picking I love fresh picked apples, hayrides to the pumpkin patch so we can roast the seeds and make one of my fave desserts stewed pumpkin and getting ready for Halloween.
I will also be planting some bulbs this fall in my little garden patch so I'll update you on what and when I plant my bulbs. I think that I will be doing some bulb layering for continuous color from early spring until late summer. So I'll probably plant crocus, tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, Asiatic, oriental lilies and maybe one other type of bulb. Let me know if you have any suggestions for planting the bulbs I would love to hear from you.

Our fall leaves last year 2011.

So until next time enjoy some early fall foliage from last year. I think I'm going to go get a pumpkin spice latte to end my day. Peace and blessings.

Introduction blog

Wow this is my first actual blog post. I decided to start blogging so that I can have an outlet for my ideas and share what works for me with other women, wives and mothers. Also so that I can see what what others are doing to make this life easier.
I am a christian woman who loves God first and her family. I strive to live a healthy happy life and hope to make a difference in my darling daughter's life.
I plan on sharing a lot of the crafts that I like to do some of my diy hair and body care recipes and also some random things that occur in my life.
So for now I'm gonna go make a mocha latte and think about my next blog post. Until then peace.
